Destination Date @tufano79
Chapter 6

So, this short story is dedicated to Carey Anne and the ladies who were in on my Zoom call, Clo, Aileen, Emma, Consuelo, Alyscia, Trina, Brier Lynn and Krida. It will be a drabblish story, with shorter chapters. Shorter chapters mean quicker updates! :-)

This is not mine. I don’t own Twilight, but I wish I did. Sigh …

Up next will be the double date with Emmett and Rosalie. Where will they go?

Chapter Six

February 28th, 2020

“What crack was I smoking when I agreed to a double date?” Bella grumbled as she searched her closet for something to wear. “I’m not social. I can be friendly, but people? I’m so not a people person!”

“Hello?” sang Alice. “Where are you, Bella?”

“I’m my bedroom, Miss Alice,” Bella answered.

“Do you need my fashion advice? Again?” Alice asked, shuffling into her bedroom. “Bags? Are you going somewhere? The travel bug bit?”

Bella poked her head out of her closet. “Yeah. Edward and I bet on a miniature golf game on our second date. If I won, I’d get to plan our next date. If he won, we’d go on a trip together. Suffice it to say, he won.”

“Where are you going?” Alice asked, sitting down on Bella’s bed. “Someplace romantic? Paris? Italy? Cabo?”

“Ha, no,” Bella chuckled. “We’re going to an all-inclusive resort in Brazil. Can you water my plants while I’m gone? And get my mail?”

“When are you leaving?” Alice inquired. “You know I’ll always help you out, sweetheart.”

“Thank you! Anyway, we’re leaving early on March 9th, arriving in São Paulo on March 10th, and returning to Seattle on St. Patrick’s Day,” Bella replied, holding up blue sweater. “Yay or nay?”

“For what, Bella?”

“A double date. We’re going out for dinner then bowling,” Bella said, wrinkling her nose. “I’m meeting Edward’s best friend and his girlfriend.”

“That’s cute, if you’re twelve,” Alice tsked, getting up from the bed and smoothing her hands down her polyester pants. “Did I lead you astray with the dress?”

“No,” Bella muttered. “It worked out really well. Edward … yeah, he appreciated the dress.”

“Then, you need to make him salivate for you. What about this?” Alice held up a black lacy camisole.

“I’m going bowling, Miss Alice,” Bella laughed. “That’s more appropriate for a club. I can’t really wear a bra with that.”

“Don’t take this wrong way, Bella, but you really don’t need a bra. Will you trust me?” Alice sighed, thrusting the camisole to Bella. “Put this on. I’ll make you look sexy, but not slutty.”

“Okay,” Bella sighed, taking the camisole, and ducking into her bathroom. She changed into the shirt with a pair of dark wash skinny jeans. When she was dressed, she walked back out into her bedroom. “I still feel like … I don’t know …”

“You look hot. I’d do you,” Alice giggled. She held up a long, slim black sweater. “So, you don’t feel so exposed. Now, sit. Let me do your hair.”

“Miss Alice, I can do my own hair,” Bella chuckled.

“I know, but I’m living through you, remember?” Alice chirped, gathering Bella’s hair into a messy, curly bun. Tendrils framed her face, making her look sweet and sexy. “Will you let me do your makeup?”

“I appreciate the offer, but I think I know where I’m going with this,” Bella grinned. “Sultry eyes with a simple lip.”

“While you gussy yourself up, tell me more about your beau,” Alice grinned. “Is he a wildcat in bed?”

Bella rolled her eyes, ignoring her neighbor’s question. She did tell her about Edward, along with more details about the bet. Alice was swooning by the time Bella finished her makeup. The door buzzed, indicating that Edward was there. “Can I meet him, Bella?”

“Well, since you’re my only family, I think it would be appropriate,” Bella said, slipping on her ballet flats. “Don’t embarrass him, Miss Alice.”

“Me? Never!” Alice scoffed.

Walking into the living room, Bella said a cursory hello to Edward before buzzing him into the apartment. She left the door open for him to come inside.

Alice sat down, picking up one of the many manuscripts on the cocktail table. “Oh, this is awful!”

“Which one is it?” Bella asked, putting on a layered necklace.

“The one where the main character has sex with a ghost and gets pregnant,” Alice grimaced.

“Yeah, that one is particularly awful. Unfortunately, it’s the third in a series,” Bella explained.

“Knock, knock,” Edward intoned, poking his head inside. “Wow … Bella, you look … exquisite.” He walked over to her, sliding his arms around her waist, and dropping a kiss onto her soft lips.

“Told you,” Alice sang.

Bella sighed with a soft smile, turning to her friend. “Really, Miss Alice?”

“Yes, really. Hello, young man. I’m Mary Alice Whitlock and I guess you’d say that Bella’s my family,” Alice said, holding out her gnarled hand.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Mrs. Whitlock,” Edward smiled. “I’m Edward Cullen and I’m honored to meet you.” He shook her hand and with surprising strength, she tugged him closer to him and glowered at him with a narrow gaze. “Whoa!”

“I mean it when I say that I’m Bella’s family. You hurt her and I hurt you, capische?” Alice growled, eyeing him speculatively.

“I could never hurt her, Mrs. Whitlock,” Edward breathed. “I really care for Bella.”

“Good,” Alice nodded, releasing him, and sitting back down primly. “I approve of Edward Cullen, but reserve the right to surgically removing his balls if he hurts you, Bella.”

“Duly noted, Miss Alice,” Bella deadpanned. “But, don’t remove his balls. I’m kind of attached to those.”

“Hmmmm, good to know,” Alice snickered. “Don’t be out too late and have fun.” She kissed Bella’s cheek. As she scuttled past Edward, she pinched his butt. He barked out a surprised laugh, scowling good-naturedly at the adorable older woman.

The door closed with an efficient click. With a crooked grin, “Are you ready to go, Bella?” Edward asked.

She picked up her purse, slinging it over her shoulder. “As ready as I’ll ever be. Shall we?”

Edward took her hand, threading his fingers with hers. He gently kissed once more before they left her tiny apartment. Once in the car, they stayed in Bella’s neighborhood, parking across the street from Tin Table, a local farm-to-table restaurant. There was a couple standing outside. The man was huge, with muscles upon muscles and a friendly smile. The woman was tall and skinny, tapping on her cell phone with a scowl on her face. “The big guy is Emmett. His girlfriend is Rosalie.”

Bella nodded, pushing open the car door, much to Edward’s chagrin. They walked up to the restaurant.

“Eddie!” Emmett beamed. “Took you long enough.”

“Bella introduced me to her friend at her apartment, and I didn’t want to be rude,” Edward sighed. “Anyhow, Bella, this is my best friend and business partner, Emmett McCarty.”

“Nice to meet you,” Bella grinned, holding out her hand. “I’ve heard a lot about you.”

“Me, too, Bella,” Emmett said, bypassing her hand and giving Bella a hug. She awkwardly patted his back, before stepping back. He gestured to the skinny blonde next to him with a wide grin. “This is the love of my life, Rosalie Hale.”

Rosalie looked at Bella with a baleful glower. “Can we go inside, Emmett? I’m cold,” she huffed. With another scornful look, she walked to the door and stood in front of it. She tapped her foot impatiently, making Emmett jump, opening the door for her. They slipped into the restaurant.

“Wow, she’s pleasant,” Bella grumbled.

“Not really,” Edward grimaced. “There’s no explanation for her behavior other than she’s a bitch. The only person who can handle her is Emmett. She tolerates me. Sort of … only because of my relationship with Emmett,” Edward stood in front of her. “We can stay for dinner and then sneak out of bowling. I’m certain we can find other things to do. Things that require a lot less clothing.”

“You’re obsessed, Edward,” Bella snickered.

“I’ve had a taste of you, and I can’t get enough,” Edward purred, sliding his arms around Bella’s waist. “Seriously, though. We can leave after dinner.”

“Okay,” Bella nodded. “What does Rosalie do? Besides give people hateful glares?”

“She’s in advertising. That’s how Emmett and Rosalie met,” Edward said, opening the door for Bella. “She was with the agency Emmett hired to help grow our business. The only thing she grew was Emmett’s dick. She did help us, a little bit, but not enough. I did more work to advertise for the gyms than she did, but whatever.”

“That sucks,” Bella frowned.

“She had a few good ideas, but the implementation was half-assed. She’s very smart when it comes advertising, but her attitude and work ethic leaves much to be desired,” Edward smirked, with a half-hearted shrug.

“Eddie, you coming?” Emmett asked, his arm around Rosalie’s waist.

Taking Bella’s hand, they walked to the hostess stand. They were led into the dining room, seated near the front window. Settling into their seats, they looked over menu. “So, Edward, Emmett said you’re going on a little vacation. Is that wise?” Rosalie asked. “Summer is just around the corner … people are going to want to go to the gym to get into shape. They need their beach bodies.”

“Emmett can handle the gym, Rosalie. I haven’t taken any time off since we opened the latest location in our franchise,” Edward explained. “We have a strong management team at each building and we’re beginning to move into online training sessions. It’s not like I’m a trainer like Emmett. I run the business side of things. I can do that remotely while I’m on vacation.”

“Working on vacation?” Bella quipped. “That’s sacrilegious.”

“Are you bringing manuscripts?” Edward asked.

“Nope,” Bella answered with a shitty grin on her face. “But, I won’t judge you if you have to work, Edward.”

“Thanks, baby,” Edward laughed, kissing Bella’s lips.

“Whatever,” Rosalie scoffed, waving her hand dismissively. “Don’t come crying to me when your business goes under.”

“Rosie, stop,” Emmett chided. “Eddie and I are grateful for your work on the advertising campaign, but we’re the owners of Twilight Fitness. Not you. You know I love you, but you’re no longer our advertising executive because of our relationship.”

“Just because I’m no longer on your account, doesn’t mean that I don’t care about your business,” Rosalie huffed. “I just think it’s a bad decision for you to go now, Edward.”

“Again, it’s not your decision to make,” Edward said coolly. “No more shop talk. We’re out on a double date and giving us a chance to have some fun.”

“And, get to know each other better, hmmm?” Emmett smiled, nuzzling Rosalie’s neck. She stiffened, giving Emmett a harsh look. He sat back, crossing his arms angrily. He took a few breaths before looking at the petite brunette next to Edward. “So, Bella, Edward said you’re a book editor.”

“I am. I work for Eclipse Publishing. I get to read some amazing novels. It also gives me an opportunity to work from anywhere,” Bella answered. “It’s why I’m able to travel so often, blogging about my adventures. Recently, I’ve added vlogging to repertoire. Speaking of which, the footage from our second date is up on my YouTube channel from the mini-golf adventure. I posted it on my Insta and Facebook. I tagged you on both.”

“I saw the video and it was awesome,” Edward beamed. “You looked gorgeous on that video, babe.”

“I want to see!” Emmett said.

Bella took out her phone, pulling up her YouTube channel. “Here you go,” she said. “There’s a link in the description box for my blog.”

“I just sent the link to my phone from yours. Now, I’ve got your number if I need to get a hold of you. This is also really good, Bella,” Emmett said, watching the video. “What do you use to edit your videos?”

“Final Cut Pro,” Bella answered. “It was expensive, but very good and worth it. I had to take a few online courses to get it down, but I really like the effects it offers me for the videos.”

“How quaint,” Rosalie muttered, rolling her eyes. “Did you get permission to film? They could sue you. What if you gave them a bad review?”

“Yes, I did get permission to film in there. They also signed a release, giving me permission to give my honest opinion. If they hadn’t, I wouldn’t have posted the video. I’m not an idiot, Rosalie. I do have a college education,” Bella said, arching a brow at Rosalie. “Would it kill you to stop being a bitch to me and Edward and have some fun?”

“Excuse me?” Rosalie growled.

Edward laughed, but covered it by coughing. “She’s got a point, Rosalie.”

“I’m not a bitch,” Rosalie sneered. “I’m just blunt.”

“There’s blunt and then there’s rude,” Bella said. “It’s all about you and criticizing everyone else. You’re not making a very good first impression, if you ask me.”

“Emmett, you’re not going to let her talk to me this way. Are you?” Rosalie growled, pouting at Emmett.

“Rosie, I love you, but you do come off as abrasive. Edward and I are used to you, but Bella is new to our family,” Emmett explained.

Rosalie scoffed. “Pfft, family.”

“Yes, family! You’ve been harsh to her, and it’s only been fifteen minutes. I wouldn’t blame Edward or Bella if they want to leave. Fuck, I want to leave,” Emmett sighed.

Rosalie’s eyes brimmed with tears. She got up and scurried toward the bathroom.

Bella put her napkin on the table, pushing up to her feet. “Can you order me a glass of white wine? I’ll go check on Rosalie.” She followed Rosalie, disappearing into the throng of people.

“I’m sorry, Eddie. I thought she’d be okay,” Emmett sighed, taking a hefty sip of his water. “She’s been distant the past few weeks …”

“She’s been really bitchy lately. What’s her deal?” Edward asked.

“I don’t know. I try to get her to open up, but she distracts me with sex,” Emmett grumbled. “We’re having a lot of sex, but with very few conversations. I don’t know if it’s going to work out, Eddie.”

“Why don’t you take a break? Put some distance between the two of you,” Edward suggested.

“I’ll think about it,” he nodded. “Despite being a bitch, Bella’s being awfully nice about checking on Rosalie.”

“Bella is one of a kind,” Edward said. “I really like her, and we have a lot of fun. Not to mention, we have this amazing chemistry. She’s smart, sexy and sassy.”

“Chemistry in bed?” Emmett asked, waggling his brows.

“That’s for me to know and for you to not,” Edward laughed, waving down a server. He ordered a glass of white wine for Bella and a glass of bourbon for himself. Emmett got a beer and Cosmo for Rosalie, who came back with Bella. Rosalie’s cheeks were pink with smudged makeup and puffy eyes. Bella sat down, kissing Edward’s cheek. “Everything okay, beautiful?”

“I’ll tell you later, babe,” Bella murmured.

The server came with the drinks. Rosalie asked for some water. Appetizers were ordered and the conversation was a bit stilted. However, once the food arrived, things became less formal. Emmett told them stories about some of the weird clients he’d had at the gym. Edward backed him up, sharing his own funny stories. He wasn’t a trainer, but he did give tours and tried to keep overzealous cougars at bay.

Over dinner, Bella shared some of her favorite travel stories overseas. Emmett was intrigued, asking questions, and wanting to know more. Even Rosalie participated, asking Bella about her travels.

When the bill was paid, Emmett asked if they still wanted to go bowling. Bella said it would be fun and Edward followed her lead. The drove to a nearby bowling alley, Garage Bowling and Billiards. In the car, Edward asked about Rosalie. “What’s her deal, Bella? She’s been pricklier than usual,” he asked.

“She’s pregnant,” Bella replied.

“Holy fuck,” Edward mused. “Why was she so angry and curt?”

“Well, her body is flooded with hormones. Unfortunately, she doesn’t want to have the baby,” Bella explained. “She adores your friend, but she isn’t sure if she wants to be a parent with him, or at all. She doesn’t know how to tell him.”

“I can’t imagine Emmett being a father,” Edward said. “Wow …”

“You can’t tell him, Edward,” Bella chided. “She’s probably going to spill the beans tonight. No matter what, be supportive of Emmett, no matter the decision Rosalie makes. He’s going to need it.”

“I will,” Edward murmured. “You could have given Rosalie what-for, but talking to her was really sweet.”

“I was the bitch. I was overly harsh, and I had to make it right. I told you I wasn’t a people person,” Bella shrugged. “I was the one who was far too blunt.”

“Though, you were right in her assessment,” Edward said, pulling into the parking lot of the bowling alley. “You ready?”

“I’m ready to suck,” Bella laughed. “I’m not the most athletic. Remember our mini golf game?”

“Mini golf is not a sport,” Edward teased.

“I broke the windmill,” Bella smirked. “So, be prepared for me sucking at bowling.” She slid her eyes to him. “Pool, on the other hand, is something I can play. Geometry and all that jazz.”

Edward laughed, getting out of his Volvo, and helping Bella out of the passenger seat. They walked into the bowling alley. Emmett and Rosalie were waiting just inside. “There’s a wait for bowling, but we can use the pool hall,” Emmett explained. “Do you want me to put our names for bowling or …?”

“I think pool will be a lot more fun,” Bella said. “I forgot to bring socks and there’s no way in hell I’m sticking my bare feet into those funk-nasty shoes.”

“I’ll get a pitcher of beer,” Edward said. “Do you want anything else while I’m at the bar?”

“Some ginger ale,” Rosalie murmured. “My stomach is a little unsettled.”

“Sure thing,” Edward smiled. He sauntered to the bar.

Emmett, Rosalie, and Bella found an empty pool table. Emmett racked up the balls while Rosalie sat down on a stool. Bella went in search of a pool cue. When she came back with a cue for herself, Edward was back with a tray of beer and Rosalie’s ginger ale.

Despite the rocky beginning of the evening, things had evened out. Rosalie relaxed, making jokes, and laughing with Emmett, Edward, and Bella. When they left, Rosalie even hugged Bella, thanking her for her support. “Is that the same woman?” Bella asked. “I’ve heard of women going through emotional whiplash while pregnant, but yeesh!”

“She can’t be very pregnant,” Edward said, helping Bella into the Volvo. “Do you want to head back to my place?”

“Why don’t we go to my place?” Bella countered. “Maybe I want you tangled in my sheets?”

“You are speaking my language, baby,” Edward growled, leaning over the center console to kiss Bella deeply.

A/N: In case you weren’t aware, this is happening just prior to the pandemic. So, late February/early March 2020. Up next will be their departure for their trip to São Paulo.
