EPILOGUE: Lasting Impressions
A balmy breeze filters through the open veranda doors. Katara cracks one eye open and glares at the sunlight streaming through the windows. Just beyond the curtains, she could see Zuko sitting on the private beach, facing the rising sun.
"Morning people," she grumbles to herself as she puts on her robe and pads out of the rented house to join him.
He smiles at her with his eyes closed as he feels her approaching.
"Good morning," he says, his voice still husky from sleep.
"Are you really spending the first day of our honeymoon meditating?" asks Katara incredulously, tucking herself by his side. He snorts a little in response.
"Aang said it does great things," he says, inhaling deeply and letting his breath out slowly. "And Uncle agrees, so…"
"What if your wife wants you in bed instead?"
He lets out a bark of a laugh and opens his eyes. The deep gold is accentuated by the rising sun, and Katara smiles in spite of herself.
"I'll do as you command," he replies with a smirk, and she giggles as he hoists her up in his arms, sand flying everywhere as they make their way back into the house.
"I'm so glad we got to go back to Ember Island for this," she whispers, her wedding ring glinting as she splays her hand against his bare chest.
"Well, you know what I always say," he tells her, depositing her on the bed gently and nuzzling her cheek. "I don't care where we are as long as we're together."
