The following night, Hiccup had that same dream he had the night following his win against Fishlegs, where he finds himself floating in a place that he had no idea how he got there, only this time he seemed to be in space.
He felt his head to find that he wasn't wearing a space suit of any kind, yet he was still somehow able to breathe which, naturally lead him to believe that this was just a dream.
He then heard a voice behind him saying, "At long last we meet, Hiccup."
He turns around and sees some strange Pokémon that looked like a white horse with some sort of gold rings on its sides. Hiccup asks, "W-who are you?"
The Pokémon replies, "I am Arceus, creator of the Pokémon world. I shaped this whole universe with my own hands, and it is I who brought you into this world."
Hiccup's eyes widen. "Y-you? You brought me into the Pokémon world?"
Arceus nods. "That is correct. I'm sure you have many questions-"
"HOW COULD YOU?" Hiccup asks.
Arceus blinks. "I beg your pardon."
Hiccup replies, "How could you do that to me? Take me away from my own world, putting me in this world without any clue as to where I am or why I'm here, making me look like a 10 year old, making me have to figure everything out on my own? I-I had a life back at my world and you took that from me." Hiccup puts his head into his arms as he could feel tears start to form.
Arceus sighs before saying, "Look, Hiccup, I understand how you feel. I know you were happy in your dragon world, but you have to believe me. Besides, it wasn't just you who I brought here, I brought some others from your world. I even brought your late father back."
Hiccup sniffs a bit before saying, "Yeah, but my friends didn't even remember me."
Arceus explains, "I didn't want them to worry about you being from another world. I'm sorry for that as well."
Hiccup then says, "To top it off, you took me away from the best friend I've ever had and ever will have. My dragon."
Arceus sighs again. "Yes, I did not bring your Night Fury here. Transporting humans between worlds is simple, but a creature that doesn't even naturally belong in this world well, I'm afraid that would just throw off the balance of this world."
Hiccup sighs. "I guess that makes sense."
Arceus then places a paw on Hiccup's shoulder. "Listen, my child, I didn't bring you into the Pokémon world just because I thought it would be fun, I did it for a specific purpose."
Hiccup asks, "And what is that purpose?"
Arceus simply says, "To save the Pokémon world."
Hiccup's eyes widen. "W-what?"
Arceus explains, "There isn't much I can actually tell you at this time, but, I've been sensing a disturbance in the balance of this world and I sense that it could potentially lead to the destruction of this world, and only you have the power to stop it."
Hiccup's eyes widen even more. "H-how? What can I do that can save this world?"
Arceus replies, "I'm afraid that's all I can tell you at this time. However, I can guarantee that, when the time comes, you will know what to do. Now, I want you to continue with your Pokémon journey. I will speak to you again, but I can't guarantee it will be soon. Good luck, and stay safe."
"Wait!" Before Hiccup could say anything else, Arceus faded and the dream ended.
Hiccup woke up to see he was still in the Mauville Pokémon Center bed, and that Astrid and Fishlegs seem to have already gotten up. He puts his head into his hands as he thinks about that dream. Just like before it didn't feel like a dream at all, but as if he actually just talked to, what he imagined was, the god of all Pokémon.
He then heard the sound of thunder and guessed there must be some sort of storm going on.
He looked to the clock and saw that it was already 9:30am and realized that he really did sleep longer than normal, so he quickly puts on his clothes and heads out of the bedroom where he saw his friends sitting at a table.
He sits down saying, "Hey guys."
Astrid replies, "Hey sleepy head. We were beginning to think that we might have to wake you up ourselves."
Hiccup chuckles. "Yeah, sorry about that. Guess that battle yesterday got me pretty warn out. But at least I got something to show for it." He holds up the Dynamo Badge on his vest.
Fishlegs nods. "Yep. Three down, five to go. How are you feeling now that you have those?"
Hiccup shrugs. "Pretty good actually. I think that, if I could win those three battles then I could probably win the others as well. I mean-" He was interrupted by a very loud clap of thunder. Hiccup comments, "Geez, some storm huh?"
Astrid looks out the window and says, "Yeah, it just came in all of a sudden. Which is strange because it's supposed to be sunny today."
A familiar voice then says, "This is no ordinary storm." Hiccup looks and sees Viggo standing there, looking out the window.
"Viggo?" Hiccup asks. "What are you doing here?"
Viggo replies, "I came here because I needed to heal up my Pokémon after my latest gym battle, but it looks like something else is going down."
Astrid asks, "Well, what is it?"
Viggo sighs, "Something that could end up bringing destruction. The lightning seems to be centered towards Verdanturf Town, just West of here, and it's getting closer." He dashes out of the door and runs towards the direction of Verdanturf Town.
The gang look to each other before Hiccup says, "Well, the storm was going to make traveling hard anyway." They all get up and walk out the door following Viggo.
Viggo looks up at the lightning clouds. It wasn't raining, and it wasn't windy either. There was just lots of lightning. The gang walk up behind Viggo where Astrid asks, "Ok, what is going on?"
Viggo sighs and says, "It would seem that Zapdos has returned."
Fishlegs's eyes widen. "Zapdos? He's here?"
Viggo nods. "Yes. I don't know how it happened but, it was a year ago when Zapdos first arrived. It took out all of Mauville's power lines, leaving the whole city powerless for a day. Since then, for some unknown reason, it has been coming back every month to do just that. I've tried many times to get it under control but so far nothing has worked. Until today."
Hiccup steps up and says, "Uh, quick question, who's Zapdos?"
Viggo explains, "A legendary bird of lightning. It, along with the icy Articuno and the fiery Moltres form a legendary bird trio. Each of them are very powerful, but if all three of them were to be brought together, then it would bring a true calamity."
Astrid asks, "And you're sure this is Zapdos?"
Viggo nods. "Yes. That lightning appears to be much more powerful than normal, a sure sign that Zapdos is nearby."
Fishelgs asks, "How far away do you think it is?" Just then, a massive lightning bolt strikes just in front of the gang and out from the clouds comes a yellow bird with spiked feathers.
Viggo smirks, "So, you've returned."
Fishlegs was too stunned to move at all. "Holy Arceus, that's really Zapdos."
Hiccup just couldn't help but look at the Pokédex. "Zapdos, the electric Pokémon. Zapdos is a legendary bird that is said to live in thunderclouds. It has the power to freely control lightning bolts."
Astrid asks, "Ok, so what is your actual plan for getting Zapdos away?"
Viggo replies, "What I've been trying for months now. Manectric, go!" He throws a Pokéball and out pops a blue and yellow dog.
Viggo says, "Manectric, use Discharge!"
"Mannnnnectric!" Manectric's body makes a field of electric energy emerge.
"Graaaaaa!" Zapdos raises it's beak and uses that as sort of a lightning rod as it absorbs the attack before firing it right at Manectric.
Hiccup yells, "Marshtomp, protect Manectric!" he throws his own Pokéball and out pops the humanoid blue fish that stands in front of Manectric and absorbs the attack.
Viggo puts a hand back, "Hiccup, I'm going to need you to stand back. Zapdos is a very powerful Pokémon and I'd hate to see you or your Pokémon get hurt."
Hiccup replies, "Viggo, you said you've been trying to battle this thing for months and for what result? To have it just come back?"
Viggo says to Hiccup, "Hiccup, trust me. This time I know what I'm doing. Manectric, Quick Attack then Discharge!"
"Man-ec!" Manectric dashes towards Zapdos while it's body charges up with electricity that it was about to release.
"Graaaahhh!" Zapdos, on the other hand, wasn't going to have any of it. With lightning fast speed, it grabs Manectric and slams it onto the ground.
Viggo yells, "Hang in there, Manectric!"
"STOP!" Hiccup yells as he walks right up to Zapdos, locking eyes with it.
Viggo asks, "Hiccup, you idiot, what are you doing?"
Hiccup replies without looking back, "Something that you can't seem to do." When he was just two feet away from Zapdos and stares it down.
"Hiccup." Viggo says.
Astrid grabs Viggo's shoulder. "Just…let him do his thing."
Hiccup finally says to Zapdos, "Zapdos, let go of that Manectric." Zapdos looks to Hiccup with confusion. It wasn't sure why this small human was talking to it, but it lifted it's foot, allowing Manectric to escape.
Hiccup then says, "Zapdos, from what I've heard you've been terrorizing this city for months now. Why? Why this city, of all places?"
Zapdos blinks at the question. It lets out a sigh before turning around and lowering itself. Viggo asks, "What is it doing?"
Hiccup walks up and says, "I think it wants to show us something." In a very bold move Hiccup lifts a hand and places it on Zapdos's wing, finding that despite how pointy those feathers appear to be, it is actually quite soft. Hiccup gives Zapdos another look and Zapdos gives him a nod before Hiccup climbs Zapdos's wing and settles on its back.
Viggo's eyes widen. "How in the world…?"
Astrid smiles, "One thing you need to know about Hiccup is that he is not like any other trainer."
Hiccup nods before Zapdos flies off into the clouds with Hiccup on its back. Zapdos takes Hiccup to an island just off the West coast of Hoenn, and on that island was a smaller version of the bird he was currently riding. "A baby." Hiccup says. "That explains some things except this, why do you need to steal electricity?"
Zapdos answers this by letting a few bolts out of it's mouth that strike the baby, and make it look a bit happier. Suddenly, it all made sense. "You Zapdos live off of electricity, and if babies can't get electricity on their own then you need to get it yourselves. Oh that explains so much!"
The baby Zapdos chirps a hello to Hiccup and flies up to it's mother's neck where Hiccup pats it on the head. "Hi there. I didn't even know legendary Pokémon could have babies. Well, this is all very fascinating but would you mind taking me back to my friends?"
Zapdos nods before flying off back to Mauville where Astrid, Fishlegs and Viggo were waiting for him. Mama Zapdos sets down and Hiccup hops off with the baby in it's hand. "Hiccup!" Fishlegs says. "Is that what I think it is?"
Hiccup holds up the baby and says, "Yep. Turns out this big guy, or big gal I should say, needed the electricity to keep this baby alive."
Viggo nods. "Of course, Zapdos needed more electricity so she can give it to her hatchling and it can survive without risk of draining her own electricity. That's actually the best thing I've ever heard." Viggo walks up to Zapdos and pats her on the chest. "You really aren't a bad Pokémon after all, you're just a mother trying to keep her child alive and happy."
Zapdos nods before giving Manectric a little spark just as an apology. Viggo then says, "Well, if that's the case then you are welcome to come back to restock whenever you need until that baby can survive on it's own."
"Nraaa." Zapdos says in appreciation.
Viggo then turns to Hiccup and says, "And I have to thank you, especially. If it weren't for you I'd probably still be battling this thing right about now. You truly are a worthy player."
Hiccup nods. "Thank you, Viggo."
Viggo then adds, "By the way, how did you know that you could approach Zapdos like that without getting electrocuted into tomorrow?"
Hiccup blinks. "Oh yeah, I guess I didn't think about that."
With that and a good laugh, both Zapdos head back to their islands while the gang heads back to the Pokémon Center where, after realizing he hadn't eaten anything that morning, Hiccup ran to the nearest restaurant and ordered the biggest item he could find.
