“I-I’m not scared!”

Jin Ling’s voice is tiny and weirdly high-pitched. Despite his claims, his hands are more honest, clutching the corners of Lan Sizhui’s sweater.

Jin Ling’s voice is tiny and weirdly high-pitched. Despite his claims, his hands are more honest, clutching the corners of Lan Sizhui’s sweater.

“A-are you sure? You don’t look too b-brave to me!”

Lan Jingyi’s voice is loud. Too loud to be normal. He’s trying desperately to smile but it’s not working; his eyebrows are scrunched up in terror and his mouth keeps twitching as if he’s suppressing a scream.

“Ha, you’re probably the one who’s s-scared! Whose idea was it to go to a haunted house in the first place, scaredy cat?”

Lan Sizhui sighs. His boyfriends’ bickering doesn’t stop until another grotesque creature with blood dripping out of its eyes and mouth pops out in front of them and they both scream in unison.

"Sizhui, you're not s-scared at all?" Jin Ling asks, jumping slightly at a bat that flies by them.

"Of course not, he's always calm! Not like you," Lan Jingyi shoots back.

"I'm perfectly calm!"

"We're almost at the end," Lan Sizhui says, checking his phone.

He doesn't even blink when a zombie charges at him, stepping aside calmly. Lan Jingyi, on the other hand, lets loose a blood-curdling scream and runs into a wall. Jin Ling screams as well and punches the nearest thing, which turns out to be a bloody ghost. The poor person under the sheet doubles over, moaning in pain.

They're thrown out of the haunted house a few minutes later.

"It's your fault for screaming!"

"No it's not! It's your fault for getting scared and punching someone!"

"I wouldn't have done that if you hadn't screamed like you were being murdered!"

"That zombie was rushing towards me at 60 miles per hour! Stop acting like you wouldn't have done the same!"

"Come on guys, don't be like this…"

Lan Sizhui hands them their boba, effectively shutting them up for a few seconds as they furiously drink up half the cup in one go. Their throats were probably quite dry from all the screaming they did.

"I don't even know why I suggested it, you weren't even scared at all," Lan Jingyi mutters, chewing on the boba pearls.

"I thought it was fun," Lan Sizhui replies, smiling. "It was cute how Jin Ling kept holding on to my sleeves."

"Lan Sizhui, you-!"

He watches as Jin Ling and Lan Jingyi bicker a bit more with their hands shyly touching underneath the table.

They're really cute, he thinks, sipping his own milk tea. Today's date: success.
