Ingenium VS Solid Objects And The Inability To Phase Through Them

III. Ingenium VS Solid Objects And The Inability To Phase Through Them

Human bodies are incredible. With quirks, the limits of human forms seemed nonexistent. In some cases, however, human bodies are still bodies. Human bodies are prone to damage. Especially if the damage comes from something large and physical. Like a wall.

“Come and catch me!” Race Dart yells, shredding pavement under his feet as he takes off in a high speed chase down the block. Tenya doesn’t hesitate to give chase. He shouts his apologies to citizens along the way and narrowly dodges a close collision with a baby stroller. Ahead, Race Dart cackles and swerves down another corner. With wheels on his feet, his turns are much sharper and faster than Tenya’s. What he lacks in intellect he makes up with speed.

Tenya, however, has more patience and intellect than a simple robber with speed. He rounds the corner and reaches out to grab the free-flying fabric of Race Dart’s hoodie. The end of the alley lies dead ahead, where Race Dart will have no choice but to stop and rethink his strategy, but he does not slow his pace. If he does not stop, he will surely hit the --

“Haha!” Race Dart guffaws. “Hope you like the taste of drywall!”

-- wall?

Race Dart flies into and through the wall at impossible speeds. Tenya does not.

Tenya assumes he loses consciousness for a few moments, but when he comes to the rowdy villain Race Dart is standing over him with a delighted expression. He kicks Tenya while he’s down, hard enough for it to dent his chest plate. Tenya’s mouth tastes like copper. Blood, most likely. How unfortunate. “You might be fast, but when it comes to speed, I’m the only one who can --”

The glee slides off his face like rain washing off a stain on a window. “Deku,” he whispers, horrified, as Midoriya steps into the light on the other end of the block. Tenya’s vision swims, but he’s sure Midoriya is smiling. His chest, though aching, fills with dizzying relief.

Race Dart drops the purse in his arms. Tenya spares a thought for the poor woman he stole it from, but he is sure he will manage to track her down and return it before the day is over.

“Ouch...” Midoriya winces sympathetically as he inches closer. “Tenya, you’re going to have an awful bruise tomorrow.”

“Fucking hell --!” Race Dart swears, and runs the other way. Midoriya laughs and walks over to Tenya without any hurry, unconcerned. Worry dots his expression as he helps Tenya sit up and gently probes at Tenya’s skull.

“You must have one hell of a headache.” Midoriya says, and cups Tenya’s jaw as he tilts his neck back. “And your nose is bleeding.”

“Midoriya-kun,” Tenya says. “You’re supposed to be resting.” Midoriya shrugs, patting Tenya’s shoulder.

“Don’t worry about me,” he says, withdrawing his hand. Tenya catches himself leaning into the warmth of Midoriya’s side and retreats. Unprofessional, he thinks, although he finds himself wishing Midoriya would stay. A very illogical wish, yes, but Tenya is human. As he could not run through a wall, Tenya often dreams about illogical things. “You stay here.”

“What about Race Dart?” Tenya asks, pressing his thumb and forefinger against his nose as Midoriya instructed. “He surely escaped by now.”

“Eh,” Midoriya glances up at the sky. “Maybe.” A scream down the block draws their attention. “Or maybe not.” His entire posture shifts; from casual and relaxed to firm and ready to bolt. He truly fills the shape of Number One Hero. The admiration Tenya feels for him is both prideful and tinged with something else unnameable.

“Do be careful, please.” Tenya reminds him. It is not so much a suggestion as it is an order.

At that, Midoriya replies with a full body laugh. “When am I not?”
