A/N: I'm so, so, SO sorry that this chapter took a while to get out. I was hoping I could post it last month, but so many things got in the way. If you've been following my latest profile updates, then you'll know that I just got a part-time job, and it's thrown a monkey-wrench into the monthly schedule that I prepared for myself this year. Because of this newest development in my life, I've had to rearrange my priorities on this site and for fanfiction in general. Don't worry, I still do have time to write and post things, but the opportunities to work on ongoing projects won't be as plentiful as they used to be. Plus, I'm still searching for a full-time job that I can call my own, so there's that.
Oh, and there's also the oh-so-famous Southern California summer heat-wave that I'm currently contending with. Woe is me, apparently. I mean, it's like my body's ALLERGIC to temperatures that are 80 degrees and above. Anything like that, and my body just shuts down on me. XD XD XD It's just unbelievable.
Alright, enough of this godforsaken, unnecessary rambling! On with the long-awaited chapter. ENJOY!
P.S.: Due to the ever-worsening situation regarding the coronavirus outbreak, I'm going to have to remind you all about the basic steps you should take if you want to stay healthy, courtesy of my university's reminder emails:
-Wash hands often with soap and water for 20-30 seconds at a time, and/or use hand sanitizer
-Avoid close contact with people who are sick
-Keep your hands away from nose, eyes, and mouth (I can't imagine how difficult this part is probably going to be)
-Eat well, get adequate rest, and exercise regularly
-Get a flu shot if you haven't already and are able to
-Stay informed on the COVID-19 vaccines and get shots if you're able to
And if you ARE sick (I hope you get better if you are), please be a good sport and save other folks the trouble of getting sick. You can do this by:
-Covering your mouth and nose with your sleeve, elbow, or a tissue whenever you sneeze or cough
-Not sharing food and drinks with others
-Avoiding touching your mouth, nose, and eyes (Again, I understand this is probably going to be difficult)
-Avoiding close contact with others
-Cleaning and disinfecting surfaces and objects
-Staying at home if you're unwell (PRIORITY NUMBER ONE!)
-Staying calm and keeping yourself well-informed (My personal advice)
If you already know this, then great! If you didn't know any of this beforehand, please keep that information in mind as we all go through this trying time. It's a realm of unknowns at this point, and I wish myself and all of humanity well.
Chapter 32 Summary: With the Shadow gone, Phineas, Ferb, and the others must once again get zapped by the Amnesia-Inator in order for Perry to stay under the care of the Flynn-Fletcher family. However, an ambivalent Perry has a new strategy planned.
Ferb and Perry both charily approached Phineas, who was sprawled motionlessly on the floor of the DEI balcony. Upon reaching the inventor's side, the two saw that his eyes were closed, and there was the trace of a smile on his face. The two both looked at each other, then at the rest of their group, all of whom had just flooded into the laboratory. Ferb then glanced at his stepbrother, not knowing if the plan actually worked.
"P-Phineas?..." he asked.
As if on instinct, Phineas's eyelids shot open and he gasped once for breath, as if he were submerged in a mass of water for an extended period of time and managed to return to the surface. Panting, Phineas looked from Ferb to Perry to the rest of the group. Everyone sighed with relief upon seeing the color of his eyes: blue.
"Phineas, you're back!" exclaimed Isabella, running up to him and embracing him in a tight hug.
"Yes, yes I am," Phineas replied, smiling as he returned the hug generously. "The Shadow's gone. Gone for good."
Just like the immediate aftermath of the Shadow's first defeat, and Phineas's return to life after his brief period of death, everyone in the room, except for Phineas and a clueless Doofenshmirtz burst into a gargantuan tidal wave of cheer. Ferb, Candace, Linda, Lawrence, and Frank all gave Phineas loving hugs, and the children began chanting Phineas's name repeatedly, led by Django and Adyson, as a means of celebration.
"Am I the only one who's not aware of what's going on right now?" Doofenshmirtz asked, but he was ignored, so he went over to Norm's body to repair it.
After a couple of minutes of this celebration, Isabella approached Phineas.
"What happened, Phineas?" she asked. "What happened between you and Shadow?"
Phineas smiled. "That's confidential," he replied simply. "All I have to say about it is that I am glad I have family and friends like you all."
Everyone smiled back proudly, and the Flynn-Fletcher family, plus Perry, embraced Phineas once again. Once they parted, Phineas glanced at Perry.
"Well, I guess this means we're gonna have to get zapped by the Amnesia-Inator for the third time," he said.
Perry's eyes widened, and then he looked down at the ground, having forgotten about the number-one OWCA policy.
"That's right, Agent P," Monogram added. "Phineas and Ferb's job in defeating the Shadow is done. It's time to ready the Amnesia-Inator once again for everyone."
Perry chattered in anger and despair, but unfortunately, Monogram didn't understand the platypus, and either way, the superior dismissed the remark. Phineas, in the meantime, patted his pet platypus in the back comfortingly.
"It's okay, Perry," he said. "It'll be all right."
But the platypus knew that it wasn't all right. Once again, he would have to go through the strenuous and heart-wrenching routine of having to disappear on his host family without notifying them and therefore sparing them of any sad emotions, and to properly balance his two lives. He never liked the policy of having to maintain his secrecy, especially on his host family, not even once. For once, Perry wanted to live out a life where he could just leave and Phineas and Ferb would understand about his sudden departures, a life that brought more opportunities to his relationship with his host family, the very people who were there for him when he thought no one else would be ever since the death of his biological family.
It WASN'T all right to Perry. And in his heart, the platypus agent instinctively knew that it was time to make a stand against the OWCA's treasured policy that barred his relationship with the Flynn-Fletcher family. He didn't care what happened; he wanted a change.
He took out a piece of paper from his handy fedora and wrote something on it. He then approached Monogram and tapping his leg to get his superior's attention. Once Monogram glanced at Perry and asked "Yes, Agent P?", the platypus frowned and defiantly showed his written message to the major.
Monogram's eyes widened in shock, and he exclaimed sternly, "AGENT P, YOU CAN'T RESIGN!"
"What?!" everyone else exclaimed.
Perry added to his message, "For five years, I have been leaving my host family suddenly, without even a simple notification. I am so sick of having to suddenly disappear on them, having to make them worried over nothing. I wish to stay with my host family, but I also want them to know of my identity as a secret agent. You've always said there was no third option: it was just relocation or amnesia for my owners. But I've found my third option: retirement. I don't care about losing my job anymore; I know completely that Doofenshmirtz wouldn't be capable of evil even if I wasn't around, and I don't really appreciate the other standards of the OWCA. So, sayonara!"
Perry then threw the sheet of paper down on the floor. Monogram continued to remain defiant on his best agent's controversial decision.
"AGENT P, YOU WILL NOT RESIGN!" he barked.
Perry frowned and suddenly grabbed his fedora, tossing it to the ground. This was quickly followed by his OWCA Honorary Agent award. Monogram gasped in horror.
"AGENT P!" he shouted, but more out of surprise rather than anger.
Perry saluted his superior and marched over towards the Flynn-Fletcher family, standing between Phineas and Ferb and stamping his foot in order to say that he had made the last word, and that he was going for his resignation. The major started fumbling verbally a bit before finally regaining his composure and speaking again.
"Agent P, you are the best agent the Organization Without a Cool Acronym asked for! Even if I were to approve of your resignation, I doubt that General Garrett would be willing to let you go, especially since you have been doing a marvelous job at repelling Dr. Doofenshmirtz's megalomaniacal schemes! I'm afraid I cannot allow this-"
Suddenly, a second fedora and OWCA Honorary Agent award was tossed to the ground. Monogram watched as Pinky marched over toward Isabella, crossing his arms defiantly at the major and letting out a small but angry growl. Monogram began to bluster again, and this increased when one OWCA agent after another threw away their fedoras, and some of them their Honorary Agent awards, and joined Perry and Pinky's side. The superior could only watch in shock as the agents made their own messages of resignation. And just when it couldn't get any worse, he felt something being slapped onto his chest.
"I'm sorry, sir, but I'm afraid I am siding with Agent P on this one," Carl said as he discarded his ID card and marched over to Perry's side, leaving Monogram alone on his side on the DEI balcony.
Just then, Doofenshmirtz and Norm stood up and joined Perry's side.
"I don't know what's going on right now," the evil scientist said, "but I agree with Perry the Platypus in this argument."
Monogram finally closed his mouth, ending his incomprehensible bluster, and sighed heavily.
"Alright, alright," he replied, "you win, Agent P. For now. Great googly moogly, General Garrett's gonna have a field day once I tell him of this..."
Original A/N: Yes, one chapter to go! ONE CHAPTER! And the story's FREAKIN' DONE! F**K YES!

New A/N: And that marks the end of that chapter! I quite enjoyed writing this one back when I was first writing this fic out. It gave me an opportunity to flesh out Perry's true thoughts about OWCA's policy of secrecy and explore what else he could do to avoid having his owners and their friends be hit with the Amnesia-Inator for a third time. I also like how I brought back Perry's OWCA Honorary Agent award in this roundabout way. It was his way of saying he truly didn't earn or deserve that award and all of the prestige that came with it. Just seeing it be used in such a manner is just priceless.
Anyway, there's not much else to say about this chapter, since it was a short one and all. Again, this is something that I would've written out in more than just 1,000 or 2,000 words nowadays. XP
Now then, I'd like to thank the following people for reviewing:
-Gamelover41592: Thanks, I do appreciate that. :D :D :D
1) He definitely is! And good riddance!
2) Yeah, it's shown how far Phineas has come in this story. I do agree with that sentiment.
3) Well, Phineas DID make a preeeeetty convincing argument about the advantages of the Shadow (or his clone, rather) seizing control of his mind and body. The Shadow couldn't just let that opportunity slide, now could he?
4) Three, including this one, if I remember correctly. I know, right?
-super toast 607:
1) Yes, yes it is.
2) What're you doing?! Get back to class! XD XD XD
4) No, not yet, as you can see from this newest chapter.
1) That's totally alright. A lot of things can happen, especially things in real life. I can relate to that. :)
2) Yeah, definitely. I don't know why I didn't get to this part sooner, but oh well. It happened.
3) Go for it! :D
Well, hope you enjoyed this late chapter! TheCartoonFanatic01 is out. PEACE!
