Izuku stepped through the gates of UA, looking at the imposing building across from him, he had changed a lot in the last ten months, his muscles were larger, and new scars covered his arms, 'here we are…" Izuku said softly, "we made it."
"Yes we did!" Mina said giddily, stepping to his side and wrapping an arm around her arm. "Ready to become heroes?"
Izuku smiled as he looked at his girlfriend, the last ten months hadn't changed much when it came to her, she was still the same bubbly, fun-loving girl he had met over a year and a half ago, wearing simple sweats and a tank top. "Yeah, I'm ready." He said as they walked forward.
"How's your leg?" she asked as he winced and flexed the appendage as he walked.
"It's aching, but i'll be fine." he said, giving her a smile.
"Are you sure? We don't need you collapsing out there."
"I know, I'll be fine," He kissed the side of her head as he says this, "I promise.'
"You and your promises." she said with a fond roll of her eyes as she looked ahead, "oh hey! It's Nanami!" she cheered rushing forward as Izuku laughed.
"Nanami! Hey girl!"
"Huh? Oh! Mina!" nanami said happily as she turned around and wrapped her friend in a hug, "did you guys just get here?"
"Yeah! And...what's with the new look?" she asked curiously.
Nanami played with a stray strand of her hair, which had been cut to shoulder length with an undercut, "I...thought I could use a change." she mumbled, ears flicking uncomfortably. "New school, new look, right?"
Mina smiled softly, "it's really cute on you."
Izuku moved to join them, only to be nudged slightly to the side, "out of my way loser." Bakugo said, walking past him.
"Bakugo," Izuku greeted, "still an asshole I see."
"Hmph, whatever." he grunted, stopping and looking back, "hey, never got to say it...but I'm sorry for what Happened to Jake…he was the only one of you losers who could actually beat me...gonna miss him."
Izuku smiled sadly, "yeah, I miss him too." he said.
"But don't think that means i'm going easy on you Deku! You better bring your A-Game!" Bakugo roared before stomping away.
Izuku sighed, "he needs a Psychiatrist." he muttered as he Joined Mina and Nanami.
"Izuku! Look at Nanami!" Mina gushed, "notice anything different?"
Izuku froze, Think Izuku, what's different? He thought frantically, going through her shoes which were the same sneakers as usual, clothes, usual gray sweater and sweatpants, she wasn't wearing any make up, no jewelry hair- "oh! You got a haircut!" he said triumphantly.
"Actually I got new sneakers." Nanami said, gesturing to the shoes.
"Wait what? No those are-I know those are the same-you...you're messing with me." he said in a defeated voice as Mina and Nanami laughed.
"Oooh, we're making fun of Izuku?" Kan asked as he walked forward, "this is my favorite pastime."
"Hey Kan," Izuku greeted, "and no, they're just tricking me into thinking I didn't notice what's new with Nanami."
Kan looked at the diminutive girl, "uh...she has Cat ears?"
"I've had cat ears since we met, asshole!"
"Well your hair covered them!"
"No it didn't!"
Mina and Izuku sweat dropped as Jenga walked over, munching on a slice of pizza, "hey guys," he mumbled through his food, 'what are those two fighting about this time?"
"Same as usual." Izuku said, "over something dumb Kan said."
'Hmm...did she do something new with her hair? I like it."
"Out of all three of you, how is Jenga the one who figured it out first?" Mina asked.
"I have an eye for decorations." Jenga said with a shrug as he finished his pizza, clearing his throat as he waved his hand between the two bickering friends, "Come on guys, everythings about to start."
"Yeah Nanami, sheesh quit wasting time." Kan said, dodging Nanami's swipe as he scurried after Jenga.
Nanami growled as she followed her friends, flanking Izuku on his otherside as he intertwined hands with Mina, "I'm going to skewer him next training day." she grumbled.
"He's starting to figure out that if he just hides behind Jenga you won't shoot."
"Then i'll get him too!"
"Harsh." Mina cackled as they entered the auditorium. All of them separating to go to their assigned seats, "see you after Midori!" Mina called as she got to her seat. Izuku waved at her and climbed the stairs to his spot next to Bakugo.
"You're limping." he said.
"Yeah I know, probably always going to have it." he said as he stared at the stage.
The lights went down and a spot light shone on the podium, where a familiar hero was standing, "ALRIGHT UA HOPEFULS! LETS GET THIS PARTY STARTED YO!"
"It's Present Mic!" Izuku almost squealed as Bakugo glared at him.
"Shut up nerd!"
"CAN I GET A HEY!?"
"HEY!" Izuku shouted, alongside Jenga, Kan and Nanami, their distance from each other making their cheers echo loudly.
"ALRIGHTY WE GOT SOME PUMPED UP FANS! SO CAN I GET ANOTHER HEEEEY!"
"ALRIGHT, THANK YOU FOR YOUR ENERGY, NOW, LET ME GET YOU THE LOWDOWN ON HOW THIS ENTRANCE EXAM WILL GO. AFTER THE WRITTEN EXAM-"
Izuku listened dutifully to the instructions, Idly looking at his papers to confirm which battle center he would be in.
"NOW, LET ME LEAVE YOU WITH A SNEAK PEAK OF OUR SCHOOL MOTTO, NOW, EVERYONE, GIVE ME A BIG PLUS ULTRA!"
"PLUS ULTRA!"Izuku cheered alongside Jenga and Kan.
"I LOVE THESE KIDS! NOW GET GOING!"
Izuku stretched out in front of the entrance to his battle center. Now clad in a tank top and a pair of basketball shorts, Jake's handwraps expertly wrapped around his hands and forearms.
"Izu!" Mina sang, skipping over to his side, "how do you think you did on the written exam?"
"I think I did okay." he admitted, putting his arm around her waist, "what about you?"
"Hmph, not good I don't think, but who cares about book learning! We get to fight robots!" she cheered, drawing the attention of others, some glaring in jealousy at the pretty girl and what appeared to be her boyfriend.
"We'll definitely have an edge here.' He said with a smile, "though I think it would be a good idea we go off on our own, don't want to be accused of cheating."
"You're right! Didn't even think about that-"
"-Excuse me!" a boy interrupted, he was slightly taller then Izuku and wore a tight blue workout outfit.
"Uh...sup?" Izuku asked curiously, turning to face the boy with his arms crossed.
"Can't you two see you're distracting everyone with your loud and inappropriate conversation?"
"Inappropriate?"Mina asked in confusion, "we're talking about the test."
"Yeah, and barring the greeting, we've kept our voices down." izuku said, giving the boy a hard glare, "why don't you worry about yourself?"
"You're distracting the other applicants!"
"The only people getting distracted right now are us by you." Izuku said sharply, arms going to his side, fists clenched, "so why don't you step off."
"Izu." Mina said, grabbing his arm, "it's not worth it."
Izuku kept eye contact with the boy for a little whistle longer, before taking a step back, "worry about yourself kid." he said, walking away with Mina at his side, Iida just huffed.
Everyone looked up in surprise, staring at Present Mic who was standing atop of the battle center, arms crossed with a grin, "there's no countdown in combat! Your time starts now.
Quick as they could, Izuku and Mina charged forward. Splitting off from each other at the first intersection.
"Good luck!" Izuku called to his girlfriend.
"Kick ass babe!" she shouted back with a cheeky grin as he laughed, running into two one-pointers, both bearing down on him fast. Quick as a flash he side-stepped the first bot and shot his right fist forward like a piston, tearing through the joint connecting it's arm to the body before pivoting and driving a roundhouse through the robots head, smashing it and sending it flying into the other one-pointer, destroying it as well, "easy." Izuku grinned as he took off running down the street, looking for more robots.'
Toshinori Yagi, Otherwise known as All-Might, sat in the observation room. Around him sat the other teachers and a few members of the board of education, all of them watching the initiation with interest.
Specifically three students who had registered as quirkless.
"It seems we had nothing to be worried about." Nezu commented as he watched Izuku take on three robots at once, his movements fluid and deadly as he punched through solid metal and turned the robots into scrap."these children are more than qualified."
"Look at this one here." Midnight motioned to a screen that had Nanami on it, the girl was running across the tops of the roofs, firing arrows as she ran, currently she had jumped off the edge as two three pointers chased her, twisting in mid-air, she fired three arrows at one time, two of the arrows exploding on contact with the robots and destroying them while the third anchored onto the roof and suddenly lost its rigidity as she used what was now a rope to swing herself to the next building, landing in a roll and popping up in a spring as she continued on, "her timing is impressive, and she's a deadshot with that bow."
"Wouldn't her ears count as a quirk?" one of the board members asked, gesturing to the cat ears atop her head.
"Doctor reports state that while her ears resemble that of a cats, they have none of the sensitivity had by felines, in all they're just a genetic mutation, and not a quirk." Nezu explained, having looked for that exact answer himself.
"Then there's this one." snipes said, gesturing to the screen that had Madara running on it, hands trailing behind him as he dodged several attacks from a three pointer, jumping back from a particularly fast swipe of an arm, he suddenly brought his hands forward, Kunai appearing between his fingers as he threw them at the robot, he then landed and immediately back flipped over a robot, pulling a Katana from his back and splitting the bots head in half before running down the street, switching his grip on it and cutting through several more bots. "His precision with these weapons are amazing, if I didn't know he was quirkless I wouldn't have guessed."
"Hmm, yes, these students really are doing better than we thought they would." Nezu said happily, looking at All-Might, who was staring intently at Midoriya's screen, "what do you think Mr. Yagi?" he asked. Shaking him from his thoughts.
"Oh, huh...he's mastered quite a few fighting styles." Yagi commented, "and he's utilizing pure power to punch through those robots like nothing...are you sure he doesn't have a strength enhancing quirk."
"Oh quite sure, I had Aizawa stake these children out the last two months to make sure this wasn't some elaborate suicide pact; their training regimen was brutal, Mr. Midoriya himself spent countless hours strengthening his knuckles and limbs to withstand tremendous trauma, punching the wood of an oak tree until he could break the oak tree and then moving on to stronger materials."
"Amazing...heh, he kinda reminds me of a younger me! Only more...tactical."
"Yes, not a movement is wasted in his attacks is it?" Nezu asked as he watched Izuku stop for a breath, the boy was surrounded by scrap and his hand wraps stained in a minute amount of blood, possibly from split knuckles. The boy took a final breath before running off again to combat the bots. "I was afraid he wouldn't apply after the incident ten months ago."
Yagi looked at Nezu, "incident? What incident?"
"It's sad really, during a villain attack that left an apartment complex fully engulfed, Midoriya and another went running in to help those trapped, they got the majority of the tenants out of the building; but Midoriya was injured and his friend more so, he gave his life to save a small child."
Yagi looked down, 'That was the villain I had almost lost when I reached my time limit…" he said softly, "I can't believe-"
"-you mustn't blame yourself Toshinori." Nezu said abruptly, "while it was sad that we lost such a promising young hero, it has made young midoriya stronger in his conviction to be a hero. And now here he is."
He sighed, "I guess you're right." he said.
Nezu hums in agreement, "I think it's time for the Zero-pointer, don't you?" he asks, hitting the button.
Izuku staggered as an explosion rocked the area, "fuck." he said as he turned around and watched as a giant robot stepped around the corner, "That's supposed to be a gimmick!?" he shouted as everyone around him began running, he turned to follow them when he heard it.
"Help! Someone help me!" Izuku turned around, his eyes catching the sight of a brown haired girl with her foot stuck under some rubble.
"I'm coming!" he shouted, taking off towards her, accidentally bumping into Iida, but not stopping as he ran, sliding to a stop beside her, "I'll get you out don't worry!" he reassured her as he pushed on the slab of concrete groaning effort as it slowly lifted up, "pull your foot out! Quick!" he ordered, watching as the large arm descended towards them.
She pulled her foot out, whining in pain as she did, "I think it's broken." she whimpered.
"I got you." he says, picking her up and taking off, his legs pumping as fast as he could. Stopping only when he was sure they were far enough away from the robot. He set her down as he turned around and watched the robot, "that's insane." he muttered as the timer went off to signal the end of the exam.
"Thank you." the girl said, slightly out of breath, "I thought I was done for.'
"Don't mention it." Izuku said, grunting as Mina slammed into him in a flying hug.
"You idiot! You could've been hurt!" she yelled at him, pummeling his chest with her fists.
'But i'm fine! Ow! Mina!" he whined as the girl he saved giggled.
"You two make a cute couple." she giggled.
"Don't we!" mina beamed while Izuku blushed, "I'm Mina by the way, Mina Ashido, this is Izuku Midoriya."
"It's great to meet both of you." she said, "i'm Ochako Uraraka."
While the three conversed, Iida watched from a little ways away, 'he ran past me without a second thought to save her...have I misjudged him?
"A hero's spirit." Toshinori said aloud, the other judges nodded, "He didn't hesitate to help her."
"Yes, it's one of the qualities he is known for it seems." Nezu agreed.
'Do you think he knew that secret part of the exam?" one of the board members asked doubtfully, "perhaps he knew of the payoff."
"We don't tell anyone about it, and he doesn't have anyone in his life who would have been able to tell him," Snipes pointed out, "There's no way he would've known."
"But he's-" the man stopped himself as Nezu stood and turned towards him.
"He's what?" Nezu questioned, voice losing its usual jovial tone.
"I...um...forget I said anything." he mumbled, sinking into his chair."
"Mhmm...well that was an invigorating exam! Lets convene in two hours to review."
A few weeks later.
Izuku sat in his room going through his daily routine, half-way through push-ups when his phone rang, quickly he jumped up and answered it, 'Hello?"
"Hey izu!" Mina chirped on the other side of the phone, "just calling to see if you got your letter yet?"
"Not yet," he sighs, sitting down on his bed, "I wonder how long it usually takes?"
"Who knows, none of my family ever went to UA, but I'm sure it won't take too long now!"
"Yeah, hey, what are you doing tomorrow?"
"Me? Nothing, probably just gonna sit at home watching some sappy telenovela with my mom, why?"
"They're showing Aliens at the local theater here." he said, standing and walking over to his window, looking outside, "let's go see it, my treat."
"Really!? But I thought you hated those movies?"
"No, I hate Jump scares, but those movies were great, besides you love them."
"Awww, alright, lets go, sa about...five?"
"Sounds good, I'll see you then." Izuku said with a smile.
"See you then, bye Izu!"
"By mina." he hung up the phone and sighed, tossing his phone onto his bed.
He jumped badly as he whirled around, his mother had burst through his door, holding a letter out, 'i-i-i-it came! UA!"
Izuku's eyes widened as he took the letter, slowly sitting down at his desk, "okay...okay, lets see-" he opened the letter, making a holodisk drop onto his desk.
'I AM HERE AS A PROJECTION!"
Mother and Son jumped in fright at the exclamation before their reactions turned to adoration, "No way it's All-Might!" Izuku gushed.
"I BET YOU'RE WONDERING WHAT I'M DOING HERE, WELL THE SHORT ANSWER IS, I'M GOING TO BE TEACHING AT UA! BRINGING KNOWLEDGE AND WISDOM TO MY ALMA MATER! HAHAHA! NOW, ON TO YOUR RESULTS! YOU SCORED FORTY-TWO COMBAT POINTS, WHICH IS JUST ENOUGH TO PASS!"
Izuku burst out of his chair with a cheer, his mother likewise celebrating her son getting into his dream school, "oh Izuku! I'm so proud of you!" she cried, throwing her arms around her son.
"BUT THAT'S NOT ALL!"
Both Midoriyas froze and looked at the hologram.
"YOU SEE, WE LOOK AT MORE THAN JUST YOUR COMBAT SCORES, IF WE DID THEN WE MIGHT MISS SOME NOTEWORTHY INDIVIDUALS LIKE YOURSELF! I WAS AN ENTERTAINER IN A PAST LIFE SO BEHOLD! THE SCREEN!"
The video panned over to a regular TV screen, which switched on and showed Izuku running to Ochako's aide, saving the girl.
"YOU SEE, NOT EVERYONE HAS THE KIND OF COMBAT STRENGTH TO TAKE ON THESE ROBOTS, AND THAT ISN'T A GOOD REASON FOR THEM NOT TO PASS! SO WE'VE INCORPORATED RESCUE POINTS!
IZUKU MIDORIYA! SIXTY RESCUE POINTS! WITH THE INCLUSION OF THESE POINTS YOU NOT ONLY PASS, YOU ROCKET TO THE FIRST PLACE SPOT WITH ONE-HUNDRED AND TWO POINTS!"
"No way…" Izuku whispered, slowly falling to his knees.
"WELCOME, YOUNG MIDORIYA, TO YOUR HERO ACADEMIA."
Izuku let his tears fall freely as his mother hugged him, "I did it...I did it…"
After calling Mina and spending a few hours gushing alongside her about passing the exam. Izuku grabs his coat and runs to the park. Passing the old gym equipment and arriving at the shed where Nanami was already waiting.
"Nami!" Izuku greeted, 'Hey! So did you-"
"Yep!" she said with a grin, "Sixty-seven hero points, came in third overall!"
"Nice, you'll never guess-"
"Sup losers!" Kan greeted as he and Jenga walked over, "guess who passed with fifty-two combat points?" he said with a smug grin.
"Guess who passed with sixty-seven?" Nanami retorted, making Kan splutter as Jenga laughed.
"He was bragging about it this entire time." he chortled, "lording his fifty-two over my forty-four." he looked to Izuku as Kan slumped over, moaning about being cheated. "What did you score Izuku?"
"Oh man, nowhere near what y'all got." he said with a twitch of his lips.
"Well it has to be at least over thirty, otherwise you wouldn't have made it." Nanami said.
"You're right...all i got was one hundred and two."
It was silent for about a minute. Until they all exploded.
"How!?" Kan demanded to know as Jenga and Nanami laughed.
"I saved someone from the zero-pointer." Izuku said, "apparently they had a hidden system for rescue points."
"That's awesome." Jenga said, "congratulations man."
"Yeah, I don't think anyone else got that many points." Nanami agreed.
"No one did, I got the top spot." Izuku said with a grin, as his friends started to cheer again, even Kan managed to raise a half hearted fist, "whoohoo, go Izuku, yay." he droned before kicking the shed door open, "Alright losers!" he shouted, suddenly much more cheerful, as he pulled a stack of shot glasses out of his pocket, "we passed, we are in UA, lets drink!"
"Hell yeah!" Jenga and Izuku cheered while Nanami rolled her eyes with a smile.
Soon the bottle was open once more and everyone was drinking merrily, laughing and joking well into the night until finally, it was the last drink.
"Everyone got a shot?" Kan slurred, grinning as everyone nodded, raising their cups, "wait, wait, wait, not everyone has one."
"I...think we do." Jenga said, he was mostly sober, thanks to his quirk, but he was still swaying just a bit.
"No! Not everyone!" he whined, grabbing the one unused shot glass and filling it, then putting it on the windowsill.
Instantly everyone sobered, staring at the solitary shot glass.
"I uh...I wasn't in the right state of mind when we last did this." Kan mumbled, looking down at his own drink, "and I know this last year has been hard on everyone...but...I think Jake would be proud of all of us you know?" he sniffled and wiped his eyes, "he was always a sap like that...so, for our friend who isn't here." he raised his glass, "to Jake."
"To jake!" they all chorused, knocking the drink back. After this they all stumbled out of the shack, Jenga practically holding Kan up as they walked away, offering a mumbled bye to their friends.
Nanami was being carried on Izuku's back, eyes half closed as Izuku walked through the park, "you can stay at the apartment, Mom won't mind."
"Thanks…" she hiccuped, "hey Zuzu...i'm glad you're my friend."
Izuku laughed, stumbling over an uneven patch of grass, "glad you're my friend too Nami…"
"yeah...Jake would be proud of us...right?"
Izuku stopped for a moment, looking up at the stars, "yeah...I think he would be."
The next day.
Kan slowly walked towards the shack, shades on to cover his tortured eyes from the bright sun, "that was a mistake…" he groaned as Nanami and Jenga followed him, Nanami in a similar state.
"Yup." Jenga agreed.
"A wonderful, delicious mistake." Kan sighed, making Jenga roll his eyes as Kan opened the door, "let's get this place cleaned up…" he trailed off as he spotted something on the windowsill.
"What is it?" Jenga asked, Nanami looking in the same spot.
Kan didn't say anything as he stepped towards the windowsill and looked down at the shot glass that he had poured Jake last night, only instead of being full with the liquor, it was now empty, and turned upside down on the windowsill.
