Authoress Note: Welcome to Chapter 7. Thanks to those have been keeping up with this story so far. I know I am being a little mean to Artemis and I am sorry about that, but I like being mean to my characters most of the time. I hope that you enjoy this next chapter. Without further ado Chapter 7. Enjoy.
Radagast the Brown
"Thieves! Fire! Murder!" A man flew close to them on a sled drawn by rabbits.
"Radagast! Radagast the Brown. Ah. What on Earth are you doing here?" Gandalf asked, looking at his friend sheathing his sword.
"I was looking for you, Gandalf. Something's wrong. Something's terribly wrong."
Gandalf looked at him confused. "Yes?"
Radagast opened and closed his mouth. He forgot what he was going to say. "Oh, just give me a minute. Um, oh, I had a thought and now I've lost it. It was, it was there, on the tip of my tongue. Oh, it's not a thought at all…. it's a silly old..." Radagast stuck his tongue out and Gandalf removed the insect that was on his tongue. "Stick insect."
Artemis looks disgusted. She coughed and held onto her ribs due to the pain that she felt.
Kili and Fili looked at one another in concern. It was the one thing that they were worried about. How hurt was Artemis?
"Artemis." Kili said her name which caused her to look at him. Her brown eyes locked with his brown eyes. He could see the pain that was in her eyes. "Are you hurt badly?"
Artemis looked at him tiredly. "I'll be fine. Nothing to worry about." She told him lying about how badly she hurt.
"Artemis if you are hurt. You have to tell us so we can help you." Fili said, looking at her. Concern was written across his face. He didn't like the idea that Artemis was hurt.
A howl was heard.
"Was that a wolf? Are there- are there wolves out there?" Bilbo asked, scared.
"Wolves? No, that is not a wolf." Bofur said.
A warg lept down knocking Dori down.
Thorin killed it with his weapon.
Another warg jumped down and Kili shot it with an arrow and Dwalin finished it off.
"Warg scouts! Which means an orc pack is not far behind." Thorin said, looking at the group.
"Orc pack?" Bilbo said, concerned. Now he was really wishing that he hadn't come on this quest.
Artemis pulled her swords out even though she was hurting. She pulled Bilbo closer to her to keep an eye on him.
"Who did you tell about your quest, beyond your kin?" Gandalf asked.
"Who did you tell?"
"No one, I swear. What in Durin's name is going on?"
"You are being hunted."
"We have to get out of here." Dwalin said.
"We can't! We have no ponies. They bolted." Ori said.
"I'll draw them off." Radagast stated getting onto his sled.
"These are Gundabad Wargs. They will outrun you." Gandalf told Radagast.
"These are Rhosgobel Rabbits. I'd like to see them try." Radagast said before shooting off.
Gandalf watched behind a rock. "Come on!"
They ran across the rocky plains. They hid behind a rock when warg scouts came close.
"Stay together." Gandalf told them.
"Move." Thorin yelled.
They moved again and hid behind another rock.
Ori began to move again.
"Ori, no. Come back." Thorin yelled.
"Come on! Quick!" Gandalf yelled.
"Where are you leading us?" Thorin asked, looking at Gandalf.
Gandalf didn't reply.
Artemis tried to take deep breaths, but it was shallow breaths. She couldn't get enough air into her lungs.
Thorin nodded to Kili.
Kili fires an arrow at the warg causing the warg and orc to fall.
They kill them, but bring attention to themselves.
"Move. Run!" Ganedalf yelled.
Wargs began to surround them as they ran.
"There they are!" Gloin yelled.
"This way! Quickly." Gandalf yelled.
They continue to run, but they are surrounded.
"There's more coming!" Kili yelled.
"Kili shoot them!" Thorin yelled.
Gandalf left them.
Artemis pulled her lighter sword out.
"We're surrounded!" Fili yelled, gripping onto his twin swords tightly.
Kili began to fire his arrows killing as many as he could. "Where is Gandalf?"
"He has abandoned us!" Dwalin yelled.
"He hasn't abandoned us." Artemis yelled as they got closer together.
Thorin pulled out his sword. "Hold your ground."
"This way you fools!" Gandalf yelled.
"Come on move! Quickly, all of you. Go, go, go."
"Go Bilbo." Artemis yelled.
Bilbo and the other dwarves except for Kili, Fili, Thorin, and Artemis were out.
Thorin killed a warg that got too close. "Kili run!"
Fili slid down.
Kili ran towards his uncle.
Artemis shoved both Thorin and Kili down the crack. A shot that was meant for Kili or Thorin tore into her leg. She tumbled down into the crack. She screamed when her shoulder met painfully with the ground.
"Artemis!" Gandalf yelled.
"I'm fine." She said through gritted teeth, as she slowly got up to her feet.
"An orc arrow." Gandalf stated as he saw the black arrow that was embedded into her leg. "You are not fine Artemis. Orc arrows are poisonous."
Artemis looked at him. "I haven't forgotten that." She said through labored breathing. "Rather than Kili or Thorin. That was who they were aiming for." She collapsed to her knees in pain.
Fili grabbed onto her to make sure that she didn't hit her head on the ground. "Uncle, we need to get her help."
"Can't she heal herself Gandalf? Like she healed me?" Bilbo asked.
"No, Bilbo, she can't. That is one of her downfalls of her healing abilities."
An orc fell through the hole landing near them. An arrow was sticking out from it.
Thorin pulled the arrow out before examining it. "Elves." He said in disgust.
"I cannot see where this pathway leads. Do we follow it or no?" Dwalin asked, looking back at the company.
"Follow it of course." Bofur said with a nod of his head his hat flopping around some.
"I think that it be wise. Artemis needs a healer and a healer fast. She won't last long." Gandalf said as he took the young woman from Fili lifting her up into his arms.
They followed the path down into the valley revealing a wondrous sight before them.
"The Valley of Imraldis. In the common tongue, it's known by another name."
"Rivendell." Bilbo said in awe as he looked down at the wondrous valley below them.
"Here lies the last Homely House East of the Sea."
"This was your plan all along, to seek refuge with our enemy." Thorin growled at Gandalf looking at him with narrowed eyes.
"You have no enemies here, Thorin Oakenshield. The only ill-will to be found in this valley is that which you bring yourself."
"You think the Elves will give our quest their blessing? They will try to stop us."
"Of course they will. But we have questions that need to be answered. If we are to be successful, this will need to be handled with tact and respect and no small degree of charm. Which is why you will leave the talking to me."
The company walked across the bridge and entered Rivendell. Elves are seen strolling about going about their day.
Bilbo gazed at the beauty of the place as the dwarves looked rather uneasy.
Artemis panted softly gripping onto the old worn grey fabric of Gandalf's robes.
A dark-haired elf walked down a flight of stairs and greeted them. "Mithrandir."
"Ah, Lindir!" Gandalf said as he gripped Artemis close to him.
"Lastannem i athrannedh i Vruinen."
"I must speak with Lord Elrond."
"My lord Elrond is not here."
"Not here? Where is he?" Gandalf questioned as he held Artemis's panting form closer to him. He could only hope that they weren't too late in saving the young healer he held in his hands.
Suddenly the Elvish horns sounded off.
The company turned around to see a large group of armed horsemen approaching along the bridge at a rapid rate.
"Ifridî bekâr! Hold ranks!"
The dwarves bunched up together into a tight circle with their weapons pointed outward.
The mounted elves circled around the dwarves. Eventually they stopped and one elf separated himself from the others.
"Gandalf." Lord Elrond said, approaching him.
Gandalf bowed gracefully as he could as he held Artemis. "Lord Elrond. Mellonnen! Mo evínedh?"
"Farannem 'lamhoth i udul o charad. Dagannem rim na Iant Vedui." Elrond said as he dismounted from his horse. He noticed the young woman in Gandalf's arms. "Lindir… take this young woman into the healing chambers. I'll be there shortly."
Linder bowed his head before coming over and taking Artemis into his arms and quickly taking her away.
