Authoress Note: Welcome to Chapter 4 of Forever and Always. Thank you to all who left reviews for this series. It really does mean a lot to me that you guys are enjoying this. I'm hoping that you guys are enjoying Angelique. I've been working hard on making her a character that people will love. I do apologize for it taking so long, it's just been a bit hard lately to do much of anything. So I hope that this chapter makes up for the long hiatus that I didn't willingly go on. I hope that you will enjoy this next chapter. Without further ado Chapter 4.
Chapter 4
Dark Waters
Angelique sat next to Dean with a pair of sunglasses covering her eyes, watching the older Winchester brother circle obituaries in the newspaper he had before him. Her brows furrowed as he circled one three times. "Got something?" She questioned softly, breaking Dean from his thoughts for just a moment before the waitress, Wendy approached them taking Dean's attention to the attractive young woman. She let out a soft breath shaking her head softly.
"Can I get you anything else?" Wendy questioned with a charming smile.
Dean looked over at her and grinned around the pen he had been chewing on.
Sam came over and sat down next to Angelique brushing his leg against hers causing her to shift a little bit clearing her throat some. Sam looked at Wendy with a displeased look. "Just the check, please."
Wendy looked at the younger brother and nodded her head slowly. "Okay." She walked away from the three of them.
Dean dropped his head and looked at his younger brother. "You know, Sam, we are allowed to have fun once in a while." Dean pointed to Wendy. "That's fun."
"You know I would have said something if your brother wasn't Dean." Angelique said, crossing her arms.
Dean looked over at Angelique. "Oh come on Angel, you can't be jealous…"
Angelique shook her head. "Who said I'm jealous?" She questioned as she raised a brow looking at the older brother.
Sam shook his head as Dean handed him the newspaper.
"Here, take a look at this, I think I got one. Lake Manitoc, Wisconsin. Last week Sophie Carlton, eighteen, walked into the lake, doesn't walk out. Authorities dragged the water; nothing. Sophie Carlton is the third Lake Manitoc drowning this year. None of the other bodies were found either. They had a funeral two days ago."
Sam's brow raised. "A funeral?"
"Yeah, it's weird, they buried an empty coffin. For, uh, closure or whatever."
"Closure? What closure? People don't just disappear, Dean. Other people just stop looking for them."
"Something you want to say to me?" Dean questioned as he looked up at Sam knowing that something was bothering him.
Sam let out a frustrated sigh. "The trail for Dad. It's getting colder every day."
Angelique pursed her lips together, her brows furrowing in worry. She knew that the trail was cold, but they would find him. She looked down feeling a sinking feeling in her chest. What if they never did find John? Then where would that lead them?
"Exactly. So what are we supposed to do?" Dean questioned crossing his arms.
"I don't know. Something. Anything."
"You know what? I'm sick of this attitude. You don't think I wanna find Dad as much as you do?"
"Yeah, I know you do, it's just—"
"I'm the one that's been with him every single day for the past two years, while you've been off to college going to pep rallies. We will find Dad, but until then, we're gonna kill everything bad between here and there. Okay?"
Angelique pushed her chair back, getting up to her feet. She shook her head lightly as she slapped money down onto the table and walked away in frustration. She opened the diner door and left the two brothers alone. She ran her hand through her hair letting out a frustrated breath. She was upset that Dean said he had been with John for the last two years, it wasn't true and he knew it too. She had been there as well and she was just as angry as the boys were that they had to go and search for him. She shook her head looking up at the sky, wincing a little bit from the sunlight.
Sam slowly came out of the diner and saw Angelique standing there with her arms crossed and her looking up at the sky. "You're going to give yourself a headache." Sam said softly, trying to brush his concern away.
Angelique turned her head to look at the younger Winchester. "You two done bickering like little spoiled children?"
Sam looked down ashamed. "Sorry Angelique…. We shouldn't have fought in front of you like that." He said as he rubbed the back of his neck nervously knowing that she was upset with not only him, but Dean too, and he wouldn't doubt she was also upset with his father as well.
Dean slowly came out and saw the scowl on Angelique's face. He raised his hands in surrender. "Sorry, Angel, we didn't mean to upset you. But we have to go to Lake Manitoc."
Angelique let out a soft breath and simply shook her head. "Alright, let's go, we've gone on less before. Let's hope that there is a case." She said as she turned on her heels and walked back to the Impala.
Dean let out a breath and looked at his younger brother. "She's really upset isn't she?"
"Dean, of course she's upset… dad left her high and dry and all we do is argue about finding dad…" Sam let out a breath shaking his head some. "Something is going to give and I don't know who it will be first. I have a feeling she's going to give dad a piece of her mind… after all… she did help him out…"
Dean let out a soft breath thinking back. "Yeah, she's been very helpful with our lives…"
"Well, let's go before she decides to hotwire the car."
"She wouldn't." Dean said with wide eyes.
"I think she would." Sam mused as he headed towards the car.
Dean let out a soft groan and began to walk towards his car.

Dean pulled the Impala right up outside of the Carlton house. Dean looked back at Angelique and saw that she had her arm up over her face even though she was wearing sunglasses. "Are you coming with?"
Angelique slowly moved her arm down to look at the older Winchester brother. "Dean, it's too sunny for me to be out. You know this." She let out a breath as she slowly sat up in the back seat stretching out some. "I'll wait here for the two of you. I have faith in the two of you that you won't cause any sort of trouble… or get yourself into something that you two can't get out of. Just get the information that we need and then we can be on our way."
Dean looked over at Sam and then nodded his head.
"We'll be back as quickly as possible Angel." Sam said as he got out of the car stretching out some.
Angelique slowly laid back on the back seat letting out a soft breath before flinging her arm up over her head. She took a tired breath and tried to relax. She knew that they had it and she would come into the fray if they needed her, but this was just a simple Q&A to get the information that they needed.

Sheriff Devins walked Sam, Dean, and Angelique towards his office. His brows furrowed as he looked at them crossing his arms. "Now, I'm sorry, but why does the Wildlife Service care about an accidental drowning?"
"You sure it's accidental? Will Carlton saw something grab his sister." Sam questioned as his brows furrowed slightly. How was it accidental when the brother had seen something out in the water.
"Like what?" Jake asked as he led them into his office. He motioned to the chairs in front of his desk. "Here, sit, please. There are no indigenous carnivores in that lake."
The three of them sat in the seats watching Jake wondering what else he was going to tell them.
"There's nothing even big enough to pull down a person, unless it was the Loch Ness Monster."
"Yeah." Dean let out a soft laugh. "Right."
Sam glanced over at Dean, raising his brow some.
Angelique crossed her arms and let out a soft breath as she moved her sunglasses to the top of her head.
"Will Carlton was traumatized, and sometimes the mind plays tricks. Still—" Jake sat down in his chair. "We dragged that entire lake. We even ran a sonar sweep, just to be sure, and there was nothing down there."
"That's weird, though, I mean, that's, that's the third missing body this year." Dean pointed out wondering what he thought of the whole thing.
"I know. These are people from my town. These are people I care about."
"I know."
"Anyway…" Jake let out a soft sigh. "All this...it won't be a problem much longer."
"What do you mean?"
"Well, the dam, of course."
"Of course, the dam. It's, uh, it sprung a leak."
"It's falling apart, and the feds won't give us the grant to repair it, so they've opened the spillway. In another six months, there won't be much of a lake. There won't be much of a town, either. But as Federal Wildlife, you already knew that."
"Exactly."
A young woman tapped on the door. "Sorry, am I interrupting?"
Sam and Dean got up to their feet.
Angelique looked at the young woman that had come in her brows slightly raised taking in the young woman's look.
"I can come back later."
"Gentlemen, and lady, this is my daughter."
"It's a pleasure to meet you. I'm Dean." Dean said as he shook her head.
"Andrea Barr. Hi."
"Hi." Dean smiled boyishly as he looked at her.
"They're from the Wildlife Service. About the lake."
"Oh."
A young boy walked in around Andrea.
"Oh, hey there. What's your name?" Dean questioned.
The young boy walked away without speaking, Andrea following him.
"His name is Lucas."
"Is he alright?" Angelique questioned slowly getting up to her feet.
"My grandson's been through a lot. We all have." Jake said as he stood up and headed towards the door. "Well, if there's anything else I can do for you, please let me know."
The three of them followed Jake out of the office.
"Thanks. You know, now that you mentioned it, could you point us in the direction of a reasonably priced motel?" Dean questioned hoping that Andrea would be able to help them out.
Angelique put her sunglasses down over her eyes and rolled her eyes at Dean's attempt in flirting.
"Lakefront Motel. Go around the corner. It's about two blocks south." Andrea said as she watched her son color.
"Two—would you mind showing us?"
Andrea let out a laugh. "You want me to walk you two blocks?"
"Not if it's any trouble."
"I'm headed that way anyway." Andrea said before turning to her father. "I'll be back to pick up Lucas at three." She turned to her son. "We'll go to the park, okay, sweetie?" She kissed Lucas on the head softly.
Dean waved to Jake as they left.
Jake nodded his head.
"Thanks again." Sam said softly, nodding his head slightly as he followed Angelique out the door.

Andrea led Dean, Sam, and Angelique along the street.
"So, cute kid." Dean said softly, giving her a smile.
"Thanks." Andrea said as she walked ignoring the fact that Dean was openly flirting with her.
They crossed the street.
"Kids are the best, huh?"
Andrea glanced at him and ignored him.
They kept walking until they stopped in front of a building that said Lakefront Motel.
"There it is. Like I said, two blocks."
"Thanks." Sam said softly.
Angelique nodded her head in thanks.
Andrea turned her attention to Dean. "Must be hard, with your sense of direction, never being able to find your way to a decent pickup line." She turned to leave. "Enjoy your stay!"
Angelique let out a soft chuckle as she saw Dean's face fall.
"'Kids are the best'? You don't even like kids." Sam said as he looked at his brother.
"I love kids."
"Name three children that you even know."
Dean tried to think and came up with nothing.
Sam waved his hand and followed Angelique into the motel.
Dean scratched his head in embarrassment. "I'm thinking!"
"Don't think too hard Dean." Angelique called out as she dug into her wallet to get a credit card out.
SPNSPN
Angelique laid on the couch covered up with a blanket listening to the boys move around the motel room; Sam busy working away on his laptop and Dean going through his clothing.
"So there's the three drowning victims this year." Sam said, pursing his lips together causing Angelique to slowly open her eyes.
"Any before that?"
"Uh, yeah." Sam said as he looked at one of the windows he had up on his laptop. "Six more spread out over the past thirty-five years. Those bodies were never recovered either. If there is something out there, it's picking up its pace."
Dean tossed his shirt onto the bed. "So, what, we got a lake monster on a binge?"
"This whole lake monster theory, it, it just bugs me."
Dean comes over and reads over Sam's shoulder. "Why?"
"Loch Ness, uh, Lake Champlain, there are literally hundreds of eyewitness accounts, but here, almost nothing." Sam looked at the Tribune's homepage. "Whatever it is out there, no one's living to talk about it." Sam scrolled to the comment section of the article.
Dean pointed something out. "Wait, Barr, Christopher Barr. Where have I heard that name before?"
Sam looked at the page. "Christopher Barr, the victim in May." He clicked the link opening the page. "Oh. Christopher Barr was Andrea's husband, Lucas's father. Apparently he took Lucas out swimming. Lucas was on a floating wooden platform when Chris drowned. Two hours before the kid got rescued." He clicked the picture for a better look before scratching his head. "Maybe we have an eyewitness after all."
"No wonder that kid was so freaked out. Watching one of your parents die isn't something you just get over."
Angelique got up to her feet stretching out some.
SPNSPN
Angelique was almost sound asleep when Sam came into the motel room. She let out a soft groan opening her eyes slowly sitting up.
"So, I think it's safe to say we can rule out Nessie." Sam said, rubbing his mouth softly letting out a soft breath.
Dean sat up on the bed he was laying on. "What do you mean?"
Sam sat down next to Dean. "I just drove past the Carlton house. There was an ambulance there. Will Carlton is dead."
"He drowned?"
"Yep. In the sink."
"What the hell? So you're right, this isn't a creature. We're dealing with something else."
"Yeah, but what?"
"I don't know. Water wraith, maybe? Some kind of demon? I mean, something that controls water...water that comes from the same source."
"The lake."
"Yeah."
"Which would explain why it's upping the body count. The lake is draining. It'll be dry in a few months. Whatever this thing is, whatever it wants, it's running out of time."
"And if it can get through the pipes, it can get to anyone, almost anywhere." Dean got up to his feet. "This is gonna happen again soon." He moved to a chair and sat down.
"And we do know one other thing for sure. We know this has got something to do with Bill Carlton."
"Yeah, it took both his kids."
"And I've been asking around. Lucas's dad, Chris—Bill Carlton's godson."
"Let's go pay Mr. Carlton a visit."
"You two go alright, and be careful. Don't make a mistake." Angelique said as she stretched out on the couch more.
"Are you sure you want to stay here?" Dean questioned looking at her slightly concerned if she would be alright being there by herself.
"I'm an adult Dean, I can take care of myself. It's not like you two are going to leave me behind in this city alone like your father did."
Dean winced hearing the tone in her voice not liking it. He knew that she was still rather upset with the whole being left behind thing and they were nowhere near finding his dad. "Okay. I just wanted to ask."
"I'll be alright. It's still daylight out and you know how that is bad for me."
Dean nodded his head softly. "Okay."
"We'll be back soon." Sam said, giving her a small smile.
"Be safe out there boys."
"We will." Sam said as he followed Dean out the door.
Angelique let out a soft breath and threw her arm up over her eyes. Now she could try and get some rest that she needed.
SPNSPN
Dean, Sam, and Angelique were in the Impala, waiting at a traffic light to leave town.
Sam saw that the light changed green, but Dean wasn't moving the car. "Green."
"What?"
"Light's green."
Dean turned the car to the right.
"Uh, the interstate's the other way."
"I know."
Angelique let out a breath shaking her head. "What is going through your head boy? There's nothing here, you said so yourself. Unless…" She blinked a few times in confusion. "You two didn't tell me everything. You two got caught didn't you?"
"We weren't expecting the Sheriff to call and check to see if we were part of the Wildlife…" Sam said softly.
Angelique let out a soft breath rubbing her mouth softly thinking.
"But Dean, this job, I think it's over."
"I'm not so sure." Dean said, shaking his head.
"If Bill murdered Peter Sweeney and Peter's spirit got its revenge, the case would be closed. The spirit should be at rest."
"All right, so what if we take off and this thing isn't done? You know, what if we've missed something? What if more people get hurt?"
"But why would you think that?"
"Because Lucas was really scared."
"That's what this is about?"
"I just don't want to leave this town until I know the kid's okay."
"Who are you? And what have you done with my brother?"
Dean glared at Sam. "Shut up."
"Sam, he has every right to worry about that kid, if the kid's scared… who knows what that little boy knows."
SPNSPN
Sam, Dean and Angelique arrived at Andrea's home.
"Are you sure about this? It's pretty late, man." Sam questioned as Dean reached up and rang the doorbell.
The door swung open revealing Lucas, who was desperately afraid.
"Lucas? Lucas!"
Lucas took off running with Sam, Dean, and Angelique on his trail. They followed him to the bathroom door which had water pouring out from under it. Lucas starts pounding on the bathroom door.
Dean pushed him over to Sam and kicked the door in.
Lucas grabbed onto Dean.
Angelique moved quicker than Sam getting into the bathroom. She stuck her arm into the tub to pull Andrea out, only to have her pulled back under. She kept pulling up Andrea and was able to get her up out of the water.
Andrea coughed out the water.
Angelique looked up at the two boys painting some from pulling Andrea out of the water.
SPNSPN
Sam looked over at Andrea who was now in dry clothing. "Can you tell me?"
"No."
Dean looked through the notebooks that were on the shelves.
"It doesn't make any sense." Andrea said as she began to cry. "I'm going crazy." She put her hands on her face.
"No, you're not. Tell me what happened. Everything." Sam said softly looking at her hoping that she would be able to help.
"I heard...I thought I heard...there was this voice."
"What did it say?"
"It said...it said 'come play with me'." She sobbed some more. "What's happening?"
Angelique watched Dean pull out a scrapbook. Her brows furrowed as he brought it over to Andrea.
"Do you recognize the kids in these pictures?" Dean questioned his brows, raising some.
"What? Um, um, no. I mean, except that's my dad right there. He must have been about twelve in these pictures." She moved her finger over to another picture of her father as a child.
Dean looked over at Sam and Angelique. "Chris Barr's drowning. The connection wasn't to Bill Carlton. It must have been to the sheriff."
"Bill and the sheriff—they were both involved with Peter."
"What about Chris? My dad—what are you talking about?" Andrea asked, confused.
Dean looked sideways to Lucas. "Lucas?" He watched the young boy stare out the window. "Lucas, what is it?"
Lucas opened the door and walked outside.
Everyone followed Lucas out of the house.
"Lucas, honey?"
Lucas stopped and looked at the ground and then looked up to Dean.
"You and Lucas get back to the house and stay there, okay?"
Andrea pulled Lucas back towards the house.
Angelique began to use her hands to dig as the brothers went to go and get shovels. She kept digging until they returned.
"You know you didn't have to dig with your hands, Angel." Dean said as he began to dig with the shovel.
Sam helped dig some as well. His shovel clanked against something.
The three of them dug and found a red bicycle before slowly pulling it out.
"Peter's bike." Sam said softly.
"Who are you?" Jake demanded, causing the three of them to turn around to see him pointing a gun at them.
"Put the gun down, Jake." Angelique said as she slowly got up to her feet as Sam and Dean dropped their shovels.
"How did you know that was there?" Jake questioned again, his cheeks going pale.
"What happened? You and Bill killed Peter, drowned him in the lake and then buried the bike? You can't bury the truth, Jake. Nothing stays buried." Dean said slowly, raising his hands.
"I don't know what the hell you're talking about."
"You and Bill killed Peter Sweeney thirty-five years ago. That's what the hell I'm talking about."
Andrea ran up to the group. "Dad!"
"And now you got one seriously pissed-off spirit."
"It's gonna take Andrea, Lucas, everyone you love. It's gonna drown them. And it's gonna drag their bodies God knows where, so you can feel the same pain Peter's mom felt. And then, after that, it's gonna take you, and it's not gonna stop until it does." Sam explained to Jake hoping that he would believe them.
"Yeah, and how do you know that?"
"Because that's exactly what it did to Bill Carlton."
"Listen to yourselves, both of you. You're insane."
"I don't really give a rat's ass what you think of us. But if we're gonna bring down this spirit, we need to find the remains, salt them, and burn them into dust. Now tell me you buried Peter somewhere. Tell me you didn't just let him go in the lake." Dean snapped looking at the sheriff.
"You think we're insane. Insane is killing that poor boy and having a spirit possessing the lake." Angelique said as she dusted her hands off.
"Dad, is any of this true?" Andrea asked as she looked at her father with wide eyes.
"No. Don't listen to them. They're liars and they're dangerous." Jake said, shaking his head.
"Something tried to drown me. Chris died on that lake. Dad, look at me."
Jake looked at her.
"Tell me you—you didn't kill anyone."
Jake looked away looking down at the ground.
"Oh my God."
"Billy and I were at the lake. Peter was the smallest one. We always bullied him, but this time, it got rough. We were holding his head under the water. We didn't mean to. But we held him under too long and he drowned. We let the body go, and it sank."
Dean glanced at Sam and Angelique.
"Oh, Andrea, we were kids. We were so scared. It was a mistake. But, Andrea, to say that I have anything to do with these drownings, with Chris, because of some ghost? It's not rational."
"All right, listen to me, all of you. We need to get you away from this lake, as far as we can, right now." Dean said, looking at them.
Andrea turned her head and spotted Lucas going down to the lake. She gasped.
"Lucas!" Jake yelled.
They ran down to the dock to only watch Lucas leaning over the side to the water.
"Lucas!" Dean yelled.
"Lucas! Baby, stay where you are!"
They reached the edge of the lake.
Dean, Sam, and Angelique kept running to the end of the dock and dived into the water.
"Oh my God!" Andrea said as she took her jacket off.
"Andrea, stay there!" Sam yelled back to her.
"No! Lucas!"
"We'll get him! Just stay on the dock!" Sam hollered as he dived back under.
Dean came up and then Sam. "Sam?"
Sam shook his head.
"Where's Angel?"
"She must be still under the water."
"Lucas, where are you?"
Angelique continued to swim towards the young boy knowing that she had more of a chance to get him out of the water and alive. She didn't need to breathe and it was something that the boys knew well. She found him and gripped his arm trying to pull him up but there was a force stopping her from doing so. Her eyes went wide when she felt the hold come undone. She quickly wrapped her arm around the young boy before she began to swim up to the surface. She saw Dean swimming down towards her and he wrapped his spare arm around Lucas and the two of them brought him up to the surface.
The two of them brought Lucas to shore as Dean coughed up some of the water that he had gotten into his lungs.
Angelique pulled herself up out of the water pushing her dark hair from her face.

The three of them walked out of the motel and headed to the car. Dean opened the door and Sam tossed his duffel in as well as Angelique.
Sam looked over at his brother. "Look, we're not gonna save everybody."
"I know." Dean said softly rubbing his mouth softly.
"Sam, Dean, Angelique." Andrea said, walking up with Lucas.
"Hey." Dean said, turning to face Andrea and Lucas.
"We're glad we caught you. We just, um, we made you lunch for the road."
Lucas held onto a tray of sandwiches.
"Lucas insisted on making the sandwiches himself."
"Can I give it to them now?" Lucas questioned looking up at his mom.
"Of course." Andrea said with a smile before kissing Lucas's head.
"Come on, Lucas, let's load this into the car." Dean said as he led Lucas towards the car.
"How are you holding up?" Sam questioned as he looked at Andrea.
"It's just gonna take a long time to sort through everything, you know?"
Sam let out a soft sigh. "Andrea, I'm sorry."
Andrea shook her head. "You saved my son. I can't ask for more than that. Dad loved me. He loved Lucas. No matter what he did, I just have to hold on to that."
"And that is the best thing to hold onto. The best memories that you had together." Angelique said with a small smile. "We should finish loading up the car Sam."
Sam nodded his head and slowly went to move.
Andrea came towards Dean and kissed him softly on the lips. "Thank you."
Dean thinks for a moment and then scratches his head before going around the car. "Sam, move your ass. We're gonna run out of daylight before we hit the road." Dean shouted as he got into the car.
Angelique shook her head as her and Sam got into the car.
Dean started the car up.
The three of them smile at Andrea and Lucas who were waving goodbye to them.
Dean began to drive away from the two of them.
Angelique slowly laid back on the backseat. "Next time if there is a case with water… I'd rather stay out of it."
Dean let out a chuckle. "You're lucky that they didn't catch on that you didn't come up for air, Angel."
Angelique's hand smacked Dean's arm lightly. "You may be right about that, but we did save her little boy."
"Damn right we did." Dean said with a smile.
Angelique let out a soft chuckle as she slowly went to close her eyes to get some rest.
