Chapter 97: Path to the Finals Part 2
"Will both trainers send out their next Pokemon?"
"Umbreon, I choose you!"
"Toucannon vs Umbreon, begin!"
"Beak Blast, Toucannon!"
"Wait until he gets close, then use Iron Tail!"
Toucannon flew straight towards his opponent, beak beginning to burn up. Just as he got close, Umbreon met his beak with his tail, the force sending them both flying away, although they managed to quickly catch themselves.
"Shadow Ball, Umbreon!"
Toucannon flew with expert speed, easily evading the attack before slapping Umbreon away with its wing, before turning around to attack again.
"Shadow Ball once more, point blank!"
But the attack did very little to stop Toucannon, his beak just breaking right through it before smashing it into the dark type.
"Dark Pulse, Umbreon!"
The two attacks struck dead center, sending Toucannon reeling almost out of the sky. Umbreon was far worse off, though, the attack proving too much and knocking it out.
"Umbreon is unable to battle! The round goes to Toucannon!"
Gladion was beginning to sweat, but remained cool on the outside.
"Umbreon, return. Get a long good rest. Go, Lycanroc!"
Ash was about to return Toucannon, but its face told him it wanted to fight, so Ash retracted the Pokeball.
"Toucannon vs Lycanroc, begin!"
"Bullet Seed, Toucannon!"
"Block with Stone Edge!"
The Midnight form Lycanroc stomped down its paw, creating a massive stone wall that lightened the blow of the Bullet Seed, even if it didn't last long. But while Toucannon was busy unloading, Lycanroc shot out some of the smaller rocks at it, striking him in the wing and causing it to stop in pain.
Howling, Lycanroc began lifting boulders out of the ground and throwing them at Toucannon, who powered right through them with its sharp beak. Lycanroc kept at it, right up until Toucannon reached him and gave him one hard peck in between the eyes, causing it to reel back in pain.
Lycanroc quickly recovered and swiped Toucannon right across the face, sending it flying back to Ash's side of the field.
"Use Rock Tomb to trap him in!"
"Dodge it, quick!"
But Lycanroc was too quick, and soon rocks began piling on top of the flying type, entombing him in a mountain of rocks.
"Hit him with one last Stone Edge!"
"Toucannon, break free!"
But it was too late. Before Toucannon could break free, a large pillar of rock shot up from beneath him, sending him flying out so high before crashing down on the Earth, out cold.
"Toucannon is unable to battle! The round goes to Lycanroc!"
Ash couldn't help but grin. Gladion was a tough battler, that much was certain.
"You did great, Toucannon. Go, Feraligatr!"
"Lycanroc vs Feraligatr, begin!"
"Take no chances, Lycanroc! Use Thunder Fang!"
Ash watched Lycanroc got closer, sparks shooting off his teeth. Closer...closer...
"Trip him with Aqua Tail!"
Just as Lycanroc was about to sink his fangs into Feraligatr's shoulder, the water type smacked him with his tail, sending him falling to the ground.
Gripping Lycanroc by the head, Feraligatr threw him across the arena, making skid and skip across the ground before landing at Gladion's feet.
"Lycanroc, can you get up?"
Lycanroc wearily picked himself up, panting heavily but still ready for more.
"Good. Use Rock Slide!"
With the last of his strength, Lycanroc hurled a downpour of boulders at his foe, but he easily broke them apart with a large burst of water before turning it on his enemy, putting Lycanroc down for the count.
"Lycanroc is unable to battle! The round goes to Feraligatr!"
Ash breathed a weary sigh. One more Pokemon and he'd be in the finals. But he knew what was coming next...
"We both know what you have up your sleeve, Gladion. Send him out!"
Gladion smiled wickedly. Ash was in for surprise.
"Be careful what you wish for. Go, Sivally!"
Bursting out of his Pokeball came a Pokemon Ash had never seen before. It looked like a larger version of Type: Null, but without the restrictive helmet.
"Hey, that's cheating! What kind of Pokemon is that?!"
"I've never seen a Pokemon like that before!"
"He should be disqualified!"
Before a riot could break out, the referee blew his whistle as loud as could, breaking up the violence.
"All decisions of this matter fall on the judges. What is your verdict?"
The Kahunas huddled together, whispering among themselves. After a minute, Nanu spoke for them.
"As long as the challenger accepts this, Gladion shall be permitted to use this new Pokemon. Ash?"
Ash grinned broadly. This was it, his final obstacle to make it to the finals.
"Bring it on."
"Very well. Feraligatr vs Sivally, begin!"
"Feraligatr, hit him with Aqua Jet!"
Feraligatr was just about there when a massive bolt of electricity hit him, causing a small explosion that sent Feraligatr flying back.
"Feraligatr, are you alright!"
Despite the massive hit, Feraligatr was back on his feet in seconds, charred but not ready to give up just yet.
"Good to hear it, hit him with Surf!"
A massive tidal wave rose up, Feraligatr riding it like an expert surfer. Before he could land a hit, a massive pillar of grass broke the wave apart, hitting Feraligatr and knocking him off his wave and crashing onto the field. The wave still hit Sivally, though, getting him all wet.
"Crush Claw before he can get back up, Sivally!"
Sivally moved quick, pinning Feraligatr to the ground with his left front paw, causing him to cry in pain as the grip tightened.
"Signal Beam, quick!"
As his opponent squirmed, nearly breaking free, a huge beam struck him in the chest, causing him untold pain. By the time the attack finished, Feraligatr was too hurt to continue.
"Feraligatr is unable to battle! The round goes to Sivally!"
Ash sighed as he returned Feraligatr to his Pokeball.
"You did good, Feraligatr."
He then turned his attention to Sivally, a small sweat running down his face. This was going to be tough.
But he wouldn't have it any other way.
